How would you describe your previous travel experience?Patrick: Mostly business trips to France, and various cities in the US. I'm pretty familiar with flights, booking options, getting deals at hotels, and so on.
Kimberly: I've been to France, Japan, parts of China and Canada, and all over the US. I love travel and try to do it whenever I can.
What is the most stressful aspect of traveling?Patrick: Not being in control of timeframes and missing connections. Also, frustration coupled with low blood sugar - it's a killer for me and makes me really cranky.
Kimberly: Packing. It's completely irrational, I know, but I always fret the night before any trip, no matter how short, because I feel like I've forgotten something or keep thinking I've packed the wrong things. Also, the fact that during a trip, there never seems to be enough time to do everything.
Why did you want to be on THE AMAZING RACE?Patrick: I wanted to be on THE AMAZING RACE because it is my favorite TV show. Each week I would watch it with Kimber. We'd often think "How would we deal with that situation?"... and we'd hope our reactions would be better!
Kimberly: It was a great chance to see the world together! Plus, I figured this was one of the only ways I'd ever be able to get Patrick to go to places like Africa or India.
Have you and your partner traveled together before? If so, what was it like?Patrick: Kimber and I have traveled together in the past, to Oregon, Paris, California, and lots of other places. We've adapted our styles so now we're more compatible. We enjoy figuring out the sometimes perplexing world of international travel together, like solving a puzzle.
Kimberly: We've traveled together a lot, and we've had some of our most magical moments together on trips, but that's when we've also had some of our biggest blow-out fights.
What do you fear most about competing in THE AMAZING RACE?Patrick: Eating something disgusting. Being so overtired, hungry and cranky that I'm not myself, and I end up treating Kimberly badly.
Kimberly: I worry that I won't be able to keep up with Patrick. He sometimes forgets that he's got much longer legs and he moves a lot faster ... a LOT faster.
What strengths and weaknesses do you bring to the Team?Patrick: Right now, we are both in good shape, with good endurance. I play games well, and I'm good with technology. Sometimes I act before thinking, but luckily I have Kimberly to watch out for me.
Kimberly: I can sleep just about everywhere and eat just about everything. But when I get really tired I can get impatient and sensitive. Also, I have lupus, and even though it's in remission now, there is the possibility that it could flare up with all the stress of the race and force us out of the competition.
What strengths and weaknesses does your teammate bring to the Team?Patrick: Kimber is the quintessential ambassador, and gets along with everyone. She also has a great creative problem solving ability. She not only thinks outside the box, she thinks outside the room! On the other hand, she can get caught up in analysis paralysis, sometimes even with simple decisions, like what to drink at dinner.
Kimberly: Patrick is normally a very optimistic person, and very high-energy. He's also a little goofy, which may make some of the other teams drop their guard, or may make them underestimate us. But Patrick can also be short-tempered and stubborn sometimes, especially when it comes to admitting that his idea might not be the best one.
What will you miss the most from home (besides your bed)?Patrick: Our kitties. And they will miss us too, all three of them. Cooking our meals. Access to the internet.
Kimberly: Phone calls with my family, our cats, and my digital camera. I can't imagine seeing all those places around the world and not having a camera with me.
What languages do you speak?Patrick: French, bad high school Spanish, a little Japanese and Cantonese, Pig Latin and Fortran.
Kimberly: Cantonese Chinese, Spanish, and a smattering of both Italian and French.
What destination are you hoping to visit?Patrick: Mars? OK, really, I would love to go to Singapore and Egypt. And New Zealand to see Phil's hometown.
Kimberly: Thailand, Japan, just about anywhere in Africa.
What country do you feel best prepared for?Patrick: France, because of my extensive travel there. Alternately, Italy.
Kimberly: Spain, France, or Italy.
