In Control - Steve and Dave's Race Commentary

Talk about the silliness on the Times site. Post story suggestions too.

Fortunately for the Pizza Puffs, Steve has restrained me so far. I do believe that I dislike them even more than I did Ally and Punchy. I doubt that their punch lines have been stripped. I think they are just not that far removed from their NY roots, and are acting accordingly.

Love your new report, guys.

Oh, and the spawn of Satan thing at the end just cracked me up.

On top of the Spawn of Satan thing I love the Mirna of the Pissed rating. Imagine, everyone equally pissing her off just by existing.

I hope Steve is recovering well.

If you are wondering, Steve was doing well the last time I called. I don't want to be annoying and keep bothering his wife (he does enough of that all on his own), so I haven't been calling a lot. I figure to call again Sunday (8/1) and will update you then.

The surgery was a little more complex than they had first thought it would be, but Steve still got out of the hospital after an overnight stay - as was expected initially. He's going to be wearing a cervical collar for at least 2 weeks, so I plan on having a lot of fun with him by jumping from one side to the other and yelling, "over here...now over here...over here again...".

Hee!

Poor Steve. I'm picturing him in one of those big cone things that they make dogs wear after they get neutered.

Funny funny stuff, Dave. Steve makes about as much sense as I do when he's on painkillers. Give him my best when you talk to him.

Steve makes about as much sense as I do when he's on painkillers.

My brain is wacky - I read that as Steve being on painkillers had something to do with you making sense.

Thanks for letting us know how Steve is doing, Dave. (And for the funny report!) Now to see if I can photoshop a collar on a photo. Heh.

And jump from side to side? As in, move rapidly? Nah. Ain't gonna happen.

Talked to Steve's wife again last evening - she says that Steve is doing OK.

His biggest problem is the fact that one of the plates that the doctors used to help fuse the vertebrae together is directly behind his throat, and is causing problems swallowing and talking. (Of course, I asked how that could really be a bad thing.) This was a known problem going into the surgery, but is taking a little longer than expected to heal.

No kidding on the not fun bit. That just sounds awful. With hope, it's just some post-op swelling and it will go down soon.

Thanks for the update, Dave. I'm sending Steve get-well vibes and hope that he sees significant improval soon. Back surgery is tricky business and I think they never really know how quickly someone is going to respond. I hope he's feeling a bit better every single day.

Please send him all our good wishes.

Hey...I can sit up!
Thanks to all for the get well wishes, the flowers and the bite sized cheese (perfect for a 5 year old's mouth). And a special thank you to the all folks who sent me their own painkillers that "are better than mine". I will try them all and have a separate report. What a nice bunch of people. Thank you.

It was the least we could do, Steve! Glad to hear you are moving around a bit - don't over-do it! That makes it even more hellish when the pain killer dejur wears off.
